Yesterday the fellows over at Facebook announced that they were going to be adding a "Vine-like" video feature through your Instagram app on your phone. I updated my Instagram and hey presto, posted my very first video online. Which includes interactions with my lovely wife on the feed commentary. So join Instagram and start following your friends and post your pictures that way, you can either choose to be private and have only your mates follow you, or be public and post many pictures and now videos.
It seems like a complete hack of Vine. But I don't care honestly, 15 seconds is more than double the Vine time (6 seconds) and the filters you would know how to use well. The clear differences are that you can delete the last segment you do not like. You can link into all of your social network platforms. What matters again most to me is that the Instagram network is there and in place, unlike Vine where you need to sign up and get new followers and be followed back. Your Instagram followers and people you follow are already there. And think of companies using short clips to be able to promote their business activities or respond quickly to a crisis on the fly. It has many uses, many unexplored, but if you wondered what direction we are moving in, video, like we have said many times before!
Watch the short promo through the Instagram video centre: Introducing Video on Instagram, and then let me know what you think. Monetizing, that is important, YouTube and Google, remember that crazy purchase at the time? A good development, the stock barely noticed (everyone was hiding in the bushes with the elephant half nosed pig thing), down 1.7 percent. Although the stock is up nearly three percent post market, perhaps my timing is off a little here!
