Tesla Production & Delivery Update

Tesla released its quarterly production and delivery numbers earlier in the year showing that the electric vehicle maker delivered 499 550 cars in the year 2020, up from 367 500 a year earlier. That's 450 less cars than what Elon Musk had hoped to achieve for what has been a tough year operationally for many businesses.

Tesla delivered 57 039 Model S/X which I could argue are the high-end luxury vehicles and 442 511 Model 3/Y which are the more mid-market affordable vehicles. The good news is that the Tesla Model Y production is in full swing in their Shanghai factory, with deliveries expected to begin very soon.

We have been very impressed by Tesla's ramp-up of the Model 3 which retails for as little as $35 000. Elon Musk and team have been able to deliver on their original promise of making electric vehicles mainstream and affordable in efforts to combat climate change. The recent share price spike in Tesla also shows that there is profit in doing the right thing.

The infographic below shows Tesla's annual deliveries since 2012.
